The early years (1971-1976) were by far the best. A bumping, jumping, twisting earthquake of music, color and movement, viewers were treated to some of the most jaw-dropping dance moves and outfits ever seen. The swagger in the dancers is hypnotizing and the amount of amazing fashion is ridiculous. Kids with big Afros decked out in five-inch platform shoes, lapels as wide as Queens, bell-bottoms that look like beach umbrellas, outrageous plaids, and flower print rompers that look like grandma's curtains. You could almost feel the texture of the polyester. Fashion aside, though, music was the star of this show, and there is plenty to appreciate. With 'a groove that will make you move real smooth,' this mix is a nostalgic tribute to the great early music of Soul Train, 'the hippest trip in America'"... June 2011.

70s Disco: A Night At Studio 54

A new mix from Jed... "In between the acid tests of the 1960's and raves of the 1990's there was Studio 54 and disco music in the 1970's. Located at 254 West 54th Street in Manhattan, Studio 54 opened its doors in April 1977. 'Studio,' as it came to be called, was notorious for the hedonism that occurred within it - the balconies were known for sexual encounters, and drug use was rampant. Its dance floor was decorated with a depiction of a Man in the Moon that included an animated cocaine spoon. Studio 54 was the place where music, different kinds of people, and extravaganza blended into a dream-like fairy tale. There was body paint, people dressed in drag. Bianca Jagger once entered mounted atop a white horse. Celebrities abounded - Andy Warhol, Truman Capote, Liza Minelli, Elizabeth Taylor, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Michael Jackson, Cher, Al Pacino, Pele, and Mohammad Ali. Of course, all of this may not have happened if it was not for disco which was arguably the soundtrack of the mid-1970's. This mix celebrates the hedonistic spirit and fabulous music of Studio 54"... June 2010.

They have slowly but surely become a top 5 band for me and I wasn't introduced to them until 2003ish, several years after they had broken up. Anyway, some of you might know about the Quarantine the Past compilation that will soon be released. There are no repeats from that tracklist except for Frontwards, just because it's my favorite song of theirs and I couldn't end a Pavement mix without it. New Wave: The Glory Days of WLIR

A new mix from Jed... "If you lived in New York during the 1980’s then you listened to the “world famous” WLIR, the radio station that “dared to be different.” Based in Long Island, it was the first station to switch to a “new wave” format. WLIR was initially the only place you could hear bands like the Talking Heads, the Police, the B-52’s, The Cure, and many others. WLIR helped popularize a lot of these artists to the mainstream. The programming was lots of fun. Weekly programs included the “Screamer of the Week” (best new song as voted by the listeners) and the “Party Out Of Bounds” on the weekend nights. The DJ’s were very hip too: Malibu Sue, Donna Donna, Larry The Duck, Bob Waugh and Ben Manilla. Although WLIR is gone, the great music they played remains with us. This mix is a tribute to the glory days of WLIR (1982-1985). Enjoy"... January 2010.
